Indoor Golf Training Center Opens at UNR

Practicing at an Indoor Golf Training Center in Reno just got a lot more convenient.  On February 22, 2019, community leaders and the Nevada Wolf Pack Golf Teams attended the grand opening of the University of Nevada-Reno/Somersett Country Club heated Indoor Golf Training Center. With the expertise of Pelz’s Elements of Practice, PGA Pro Stuart Smith and UNR Head Men’s Golf Coach Jacob Wilner, SYNLawn Reno installed an intricate indoor golf course with realistic grades, contour and slopes to mimic real golf courses. A special video presentation by Celebrity Golf Coach Dave Pelz’s video was shown at the grand opening congratulating the Nevada Wolf Pack Teams on their new indoor training center.   Now, players can practice at any time, in any weather to keep their skills sharp. Located at the Somersett Country Club, the 4,000 square foot center is the only one of its kind in Northern Nevada and is a collaborative effort between the UNR Golf Teams, Somersett Country Club and SYNLawn Reno. Winter weather used to prevent the UNR’s golf teams from practicing in the cold, making it difficult to stay in optimal condition all year.  Now athletes can train on every aspect of golf—from putting skills to driving —in this fully-equipped center.

Indoor Golf Training Center Intelligently Designed by Pros

Inside the new indoor training center, there is an approximately 1,800 square ft. of SYNLawn Precision Putt® green with undulations and contours that are designed to mimic the same types of slopes that players face on the course.  This facility uses SYNLawn’s proprietary Shot Stopper II System.  Shot Stopper II has a special layer under the turf that allows shots to land softly, mimicking natural putting greens. The facility also boasts hitting pods that allow golfers to practice their full swings safely with the help of ball stop curtains.  And, with 150 square feet devoted to a sand bunker, golfers can also work on their chip shots.

The Entire Community Benefits from an Indoor Golf Training Center

Not only do the UNR’s golf teams get to use the facility, but the Northern Nevada Junior Golf Program and local high school golf team are taking advantage of the amazing facility.  Somersett Country Club members can keep their swings fresh for a fee which contributes to the facility maintenance and accessibility to all patrons.  The center is getting attention far and wide as university golf teams from around the country and the world can use this facility when playing in Reno.

A Collaborative Effort on an Indoor Golf Training Center

THE UNR Golf Teams, also known as the Wolf Pack, has worked hard to raise funds to make their dream of an indoor facility a reality.  Standing by its mission to provide better opportunities for achievement academically, athletically and socially, the facility works towards filling this goal.  SYNLawn Reno also made valuable contributions by significantly lowering the cost of the installation, while SYNLawn Corporate also lowered the price of the synthetic turf itself. Dave Pelz’s Elements of Practice were incorporated into the facility’s design to make it a great place to develop and maintain golf skills.   Signed copies of Dave Pelz’s Short Game Bible were raffled off at the Grand Opening.

A Bright Future

This new Indoor Golf Training Center in Northern Nevada is generating quite a buzz among other local country clubs that are now interested in indoor facilities of their own.  With the help of local golf experts and synthetic putting green innovations, winter practice can now become a regular occurrence.
